The Weaver rail is the older mount standard that Picatinny evolved from. It is still found on hunting rifles and older mounts, but its slots are narrower and less consistent than Picatinny.

Weaver predates Picatinny. Weaver rings and mounts usually fit a Picatinny rail, but the reverse frequently does not — Weaver slots are narrower and were never fully standardized.
