About OpticFootprint

OpticFootprint exists to answer one deceptively simple question: will this red dot fit that gun? Optic footprints, slide cuts, and adapter plates are a confusing, poorly-documented corner of the shooting world — and getting it wrong means a $300 optic that won’t mount. We built a single, structured reference so you can check compatibility in seconds instead of digging through forum threads.

What we cover

We map the full picture of how optics mount: the footprints themselves (RMR, RMSc, DeltaPoint Pro, Docter, ACRO and more), which optics use each one, the adapter plates that bridge mismatches, the broader mounting standards (Picatinny, M-LOK, Glock MOS), and which pistols come cut for what. Our Find Your Fit tool and compatibility chart tie it all together.

How we compile our data

Our compatibility data is built from manufacturer specifications, published footprint standards, and established industry references, then cross-checked for consistency. Where a detail is well-documented and unambiguous, we state it plainly. Where a spec varies by production run, model year, or requires a specific plate, we say so rather than guessing — you’ll see “good to know” notes and “confirm against the manufacturer” reminders throughout the site.

Accuracy & corrections

Firearms hardware changes, and manufacturers occasionally revise cuts and footprints. We treat this reference as a living document: we update it as products change, and we clearly flag anything that should be verified against your specific slide, optic, or plate before you buy. If you spot something that’s out of date or wrong, tell us — accuracy is the entire point of this site, and we genuinely want to fix it.

Independence

Some links on the site are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission at no cost to you. That never decides what we list or how we describe compatibility — the data is the data. We call out affiliate relationships plainly in our disclaimer.
